Local shoe manufacturer commits to championing local brands
Joan Footwear founder Annie Chifulemba Msiska has pledged to continue promoting local brands and supporting growth of the country’s manufacturing sector following her recent recognition as the Best Leather Shoes Manufacturing Company in Malawi at the National Product Magazine (NPM) Awards.
Chifulemba Msiska said the recognition demonstrates that Malawian-made products can meet the highest standards of quality, durability and design.

She said: “This recognition affirms that Malawian craftsmanship meets the highest standards of quality, durability and design.
“Made in Malawi’ represents more than origin—it represents excellence.”
She said the firm’s operations are contributing to skills development, youth employment and economic activity while helping establish a footwear industry with the potential to serve regional and international markets.

According to Chifulemba Msiska, demand for the company’s products is rising among consumers, learning institutions, corporate clients and international buyers as confidence in locally manufactured leather products grows.
However, she said sustaining the momentum will require improved access to premium local leather, stronger support for small-scale manufacturers and greater preference for locally produced goods.
